Celebrating the life of
Uldine Herrington Davis
December 10, 1925 - September 04, 2016
Uldine (Dinah) Davis
Uldine (Dinah) Davis passed away on September 4, 2016.
Uldine was born into a farmer’s family in Daisy Ga on December 10, 1925. At 2 different times her family was forced from home and started again, in both Bryan and Tattnall counties, when the government took land for Fort Stewart.
As a young child she lost her sister, Othell to Scarlet Fever and her father to the after effects of WW1 mustard gas. She was raised by her mother and grandfather with all her extended family close by.
Upon graduating from high school, Uldine moved to downtown Savannah, where at one time she resided in an apartment above the original Pinkie Masters and worked in retail on bustling Broughton Street, where she met her husband. She continued working in retail when she moved from downtown. She was employed by Adler’s, Diana Shop and later Belk, from which she retired.
In the late 1990’s, Uldine had the opportunity to move to Liberty County and away from Savannah. But, she chose to stay, saying she had lived the country life and had no desire to return to it.
Uldine was of the Baptist faith. Her and her husband were long time members of Morningside Baptist Church and later moved their membership to Windsor Forest Baptist.
Uldine is most recently proceeded in death by her husband, Dwight H. Davis Jr., and son Dwight H. Davis III.
She leaves behind, 2 daughters, Kimberly Cantillo and Eve Hunter, 6 grandchildren: Jenifer and Beau Cantillo, Roxanne Downs, Dwight H. Davis IV (Erica), Tiffany (Kenneth) Diehl, Brooks Davis and 9 great grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service at Bonaventure Cemetery on Monday, September 5th at 11:00 for family and friends.
